World’s most anticipated video game hits the shelves – and the West End
Two years ago in July 2007, there were unprecedented scenes as the rush for the seventh Harry Potter book began at midnight, as people battled to find out the epic conclusion of the magical Hogwarts story. Today, fever pitch 10,000 stores worldwide once again as shops opened at midnight to allow fans the chance to see the sixth instalment of the Call of Duty series.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the most anticipated title of the year, is now available having been launched with the first ever West End premiere for a computer game.
It wasn’t just UK stores that were inundated with eager COD fans at midnight; online retailer Amazon said pre-orders of the controversial title were already higher than any previous video game.
Online casino games have been one of the most popular liberations of the year, with the likes of desktop roulette and online poker making the industry one of the most profitable around – but that will pale in comparison to the sheer obsession that is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. One Facebook group has already dubbed it “Call of Duty : Divorce Maker – the game that causes a million arguments.”
A midnight reveller outside an Asda supermarket in the UK said: “Forget online casino for now, I’m going for a two-week stint on the new Call of Duty without eating or sleeping.”
